The Louisiana Department of Revenue, Society of Louisiana CPAs (LCPA), Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO), and Louisiana Association of United Ways have partnered provided the public with a free, live webcast to explain the impact of the new sales tax requirements, specifically related to Louisiana nonprofits and schools which took effect April 1.
LDR representatives, David Hansen, attorney with the Policy Services Division of LDR, and Peggy Parker, Sales Tax Research Analyst with LDR’s Tax Administration Division, reviewed Act 25 and Act 26 of the First Extraordinary Session of the Louisiana Legislature regarding nonprofit and educational organizations exemptions. Updates on compliance questions regarding sales and use tax changes resulting from the 2016 first extraordinary legislative session
- When taxes must be collected and remitted
- How to register for compliance
- Are my dues, admissions to entertainment events, raffle tickets, etc. subject to the new tax law changes
- Consequences of noncompliance, including the extent to which nonprofits can be liable for mistakes in complying with the new law
